Project Description

Project Description

The project’s main objective is to provide adult learners in situation of mobility with new tools and methods helping them to improve their competences in order to better cope with the difficulties inherent in border-crossing.  We would like to achieve this by developing two innovative IT based tools: an on-line competence assessment test to map intercultural competences and an IT supported guidance methodology integrating the test to help transform mobility into a positive experience.  At the end of the project these two tools will make part of one tool-kit.

Target group:

The primary target groups of the projects are beneficiaries of international mobility programs or young adults interested in mobility, members of disadvantaged social or ethnic minority groups, second and third generation migrants. The secondary target groups are adult trainers, coaches, counsellors, guidance practitioners, experts in lifelong learning.

Outputs of the project:

 - An on-line competence assessment tool adapted to the target group

- An intercultural training course for adult learners belonging to the target group

- A counseling methodology in the form of a tool kit and process-map

- Implementation of a pilot counseling project in each participating country

- A training course for adult trainers in order to transfer the methodology

- Dissemination and multiplication tools

In short term we plan to reach 40 members of the primary direct target group, who will be  involved in the elaboration phase, 40 adult learners will receive coaching, 40 people will receive training. There will be 400 persons, who will be directly updated about the result of the project and there will be unlimited number of people accessing our on-line tools.

In long term we hope that mobility can become an experience of personal and professional fulfillment for more. Communication in cultural contact zones become less conflictual (marginalized citizens will experience less exclusion). And at the same time innovative guidance practices will be available.

The methodology will have to enhance intercultural competencies, be a tool of empowerment, to facilitate the transmission of context specific knowledge and information, offer personalized help in practical daily problems, to facilitate the transferability of competencies acquired through informal learning to the professional world and to enhance broader civic and social competencies, and to enhance global responsibility.

The partners will rely on European best practices as well as on their own experience.

The project will involve the following interconnected activities:

Ø      Development of an individual on-line tool to assess intercultural competence and for orientation in view of further learning.

Ø      The elaboration of a training course including individual learning paths for adult learners belonging to the target group (20), using the theoretical background of the competence assessment tool.

Ø      Integration of the tool and the training in a complex counseling methodology in the form of a tool kit (collection of guidance methods and tools to be used) and process-map (description of possible ways of linking the tools)

Ø      Implementation: one pilot project with a selected segment of the target group in each participating country  (10  per country)

Ø      The elaboration of a training course for adult trainers (20) in order to transfer the methodology.

Ø      Ongoing dissemination (web page, information brochures, professional days, conference, handbook) involving various stakeholders in order to assure the dissemination of the methodology and its sustainability.

The project is funded by the Lifelong Learning, GRUNDTVIG programme of the European Commission.
