Project Description

4C - IT Supported Training and Coaching for Cross-Cultural Competences

4C is a 3-year international project that started in December 2010. The project’s objective is to provide adult learners in situations of mobility with new tools and methods to improve their competences in order to better cope with the difficulties inherent in border-crossing. We would like to achieve this by developing two innovative IT-based tools: an on-line competence assessment test to map intercultural competences, and an IT supported guidance methodology to help transform mobility into a positive experience. At the end of the project the two tools will be part of a tool-kit.

Target groups:

  1. Beneficiaries of international mobility programs or young adults interested in mobility,
  2. Members of disadvantaged social or ethnic minority groups - people in social mobility situation
  3. Second and third generation migrants,
  4. Professionals, adult trainers, coaches, counsellors, guidance practitioners and experts in lifelong learning.
    Outputs of the project:
    - On-line competence assessment tool adapted to the target group.
    - Intercultural training course for adult learners belonging to the target group.
    - Counselling methodology in the form of a tool kit and process-map.
    - Pilot counselling project in each participating country.
    - Training course for adult trainers in order to transfer the methodology.
    - Dissemination and multiplication tools (web page, information brochures, professional days, conference, handbook)

In the short run, we plan to reach 40 members of the primary direct target group who will be involved in the elaboration phase. In addition, 40 adult learners will receive coaching and 40 people will receive training. There will be 400 persons who will be directly updated about the result of the project and there will be an unlimited number of people accessing our on-line tools.

In the long run, we hope that mobility can become an experience of personal and professional fulfilment for more and communication in cultural contact zones becomes less conflict-ridden and marginalized citizens will experience less exclusion. At the same time, innovative guidance practices will also be available as a result of the project.

The methodology developed in this project will enhance intercultural competencies, serve as a tool of empowerment, facilitate the transmission of context-specific knowledge and information, offer personalized help in practical daily problems, facilitate the transferability of competencies acquired through informal learning to the professional world, enhance broader civic and social competencies and enhance global responsibility.

The project is funded by the Lifelong Learning, GRUNDTVIG programme of the European Commission.
